This is how you do equity

I was just catching up with Rezpiral, the Alex White led project that, among many other things, imports small batch mezcals to the US. One of the major foci and ambitions of this project has always been making sure that participants share in the profits and that the label is as transparent as possible about this. Originally that was a 10% share and each participant was detailed but in a recent blog post Rezpiral announced that the 2020 profit share jumped to 30%. While some may argue that the level of detail reported here is too invasive, there are declarations of how that share is used by some mezcaleros, the very fact that Rezpiral does this at all, has been able to raise profit participation, and that it’s so high are fantastic benchmarks for the mezcal world.

Max co-founded Mezcalistas with Susan way back in 2012. Before that he was a journalist at Salon.com and The San Francisco Chronicle.
