Nose
Fresh and clean aromas of mild garden herbs like basil and tarragon and balanced with sweet citrus and a touch of aged cheese- more lactic than funky.
Taste
There is a velvety concentration of sweet tamarind, juicy mandarin, and a hint of hardwood smoke that hugs the palate. The texture stays soft and smooth, while the flavors are rich and precise. Notes of fresh thyme and the kind of umami you find in aged gouda are full bodied, and remain lifted with sweet citrus leaf notes. A fresh aftertaste lingers on the palate. Delicious and easy to sip, a perfect example of what makes Durango mezcal so special.

Method / Background Notes
Jose Guardado started Mil Lumbres working with his cousin Gilberto Roldan before expanding to a proprietary vinata and local production team in 2024. The vision for the brand is for the presentation to match the quality of what’s inside, and features artisanally hand made ceramic bottles sourced from Guanajuato. Jose’s long standing small town connections means he gets access to wild agaves from private property, ensuring top quality for each unique batch. always bottled without dilution. The Cenizo batches, up to around 200 liters for each, are known for their sweetness, and Jose recommends pairing it with walnuts and 70% dark chocolate.
