Gem & Bolt Mezcal + Damiana is made from agave Espadin from San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. Using traditional methods the agave is roasted in wood fired earth pits and milled by horse drawn tahona.
“According to mythic lore… long ago in ancient Mexico, a lightning bolt struck the heart—or gem—of the agave plant, roasting and fermenting its sugars and releasing the plant’s sacred, mystical sap known today as mezcal.
Many moons later, artist-alchemist duo Adrinadrina and Elliott Coon, both daughters of bohemian-bootleggers, started crafting their own spirits and elixirs under the name gem&bolt. The pair drew inspiration from their shared childhood, galvanized in the Virginia wilderness amidst an enclave of renegade artists, where they came to understand the true value of plants and conscious celebration.
Gem&Bolt mezcal is produced by a fourth-generation master distiller in Oaxaca, Mexico using espadín agave & fresh mountain spring water, a process deeply informed by hundreds of years of tradition.
Espadín agave is slowly wood-roasted in earth-pit ovens and mashed by traditional tahona stone. roasted mash is fermented naturally in wooden vats and distilled with precision in small copper stills.
Gem&Bolt mezcal is uniquely distilled with damiana, a flowering bush native to mexico. long-revered by the maya & aztec for its myriad mood-elevating properties & for endowing mythic powers in the bedroom.”
